January 4, 2008!!!!!
So oh my God! It’s now Friday night, and I am typing this post on my NEW LAPTOP!!! Ya, it finally came. It came some time today. Isn’t that totally awesome? I sure think it is!
So, it’s a Dell Inspiron 1520. Which, I already knew that it would be, but you didn’t know that. Now, other than that, you may want to know details. So, I’ll indulge you. 15.4 WIDESCREEN display. Damn, huh. DVD player and CD-RW. Pretty sweet. Then, it has Windows XP. I finally have something higher than Windows 98! It’s a miracle! I can use Wi-Fi internet on this thing too, other than I don’t have access to a Wi-Fi connection, but that’s beside the point. It has awesome media controls on the bottom of it….Near the part where you open it. Then I have a better version of Media Player than before, so therefore I can actually have my songs in a play list and play them as such, instead of only being able to play one file at one time, and then going to have to go open another one when I want a new file to play. So that’s so awesome. And it has a built-in Camera, so it’s pretty cool-I’ve played with it and it’s really, really good quality compared to the one I had before. And I have Microsoft Works now too. It’s the good one. I don’t remember what it’s called on Windows 98, but it is SO NOT the same thing! Also, it already has MSN Messenger on it. So, you never know, I might be on. It has about four and a half hours of battery power-according to the battery readout thing on the taskbar, I haven’t proved it yet. I can play movies on it! I can actually have songs in a “library” on Media Player, instead of in a file called MP3s. =P. It’s new, so it has no bugs, which is freakin’ awesome. As I’m sure you all can guess. It has built-in speakers, so no more plugging in my iPod docking station just so I can listen to my MP3s. And I can use the headphones from the laptop, which is convenient, because on my old computer, if I wanted to listen to a file on the computer, I had to plug the headphones into the back of the CPU. If I was listening to a CD, I could plug the headphones into the disc drive, on the front of the CPU. But, with MP3s on the computer, that wasn’t always a good thing to have it that way-because sometimes it didn’t benefit the way I wanted it to. =P.
But yes, it finally came. You have no idea how excited about that. I mean, really. I’ve been waiting for this thing for how long now? Ya, exactly. And, on top of that, it actually works, compared to my old monster of a computer. This thing is heaven compared to that piece of crap. It works, yes, but does it work well, no.
I am so excited! It’s a good feeling, to have this whole new computer to work with. I have to go through and re-download all of my stuff from the internet, but oh well. I have to go and make sure that all my settings are how I want them. I have to make sure that everything is where I want it. But I’m mainly worried about the downloading part: even though it’s a new computer (which will help), I’ll still be on the same, slow dial-up internet connection. Oh well, doesn’t the saying go something like this: the best things in life are worth waiting for? I think that’s how I know it to go. And, well, I do believe that one to be true.
The only thing about it so far that I’m not so fond of is the keyboard and touchpad thing. The keyboard is so low and the buttons are so shallow, it doesn’t always register that I actually did use the spacebar-but I’ll get over that. And I’m not really all that dexterous with the touchpad, but I’ll get better. Anyway, that’s why you just get a USB mouse and cheat……=P. Something I would do, but not. Because I want to get good, or fairly good, at the touchpad. If I’m going to be having this laptop for a long time, which I will, it’s going to come in handy to know how to use a touchpad, because sometimes a mouse may not be the best way to go (like on the move, or when not at a desk, you know). So, now that you know the basics of my Friday night (Hello, I got my new laptop, of course I was playing with it all night long! Especially since it was a Friday and there was no time that I had to go to bed because of school the next day or anything, I’m not going to bed early, and I have all night if I want it). But, it’s only 8 now, so I guess maybe it won’t be on all night, but, well, I never said that it was going to take all night, now did I?).
Here’s my Laptop To-Do list……(In no real order, just the order I thought of them in)…..
-
Download FireFox (I have Internet Explorer, and it shouldn’t have anything wrong with it on this computer, because I think a virus got to it on my old computer, but I’m still not a 100% fan of I.E. And I know that Fire Fox is good. Only closed on me twice so far. I.E. has closed on me about a million times. So, you know what, I’ll stick with Fire Fox.
-
Download Yahoo Instant Messenger. What would a computer be like without Instant Messenger? Ya, I know I said that it came with MSN messenger, but I have a whole one person on it that I talk to, and that’s Christina. And I talk to her on Yahoo and Gmail anyway!
-
Download iTunes! I have an iPod, which I love. And, up until now, I have had to use the iTunes on my dad’s computer. So, because of that, I was never on it, and never really got to update my songs very often, or put anything new on it, or get anything new on it….etc etc etc. But now, with having Windows XP, which is a requirement for iTunes, I can get it on my computer and get on it anytime I damn well please!
I’m pretty sure that’s all the big stuff that I have to do. Nothing really all that fancy, that’s for sure. But, you know what, it’s all important to ME. And that’s all that matters.
