We found another link. Try this one too, if you want, it explains how the story of Jesus and whatnot was just reenacting what happens ever year in the sky. HERE.
Sorry, but this is interesting shit, dude.

I think your friend was saying Jesus was an archetype, something that embodies a certain set of characteristics….its true that during Jesus’ time, the idea of the “rebirth of God” was very popular. In celtic tradition, the horned god Cernunnos and the huntress Ceridwin engage in a mating ritual (the huntress “kills” the horned god after mating) and the death of the god brings life to the Earth Mother. (you didnt know your blog name was significant did you?) The tale of King Arthur is very much tied up with this notion, that the King (like the Horned god) is tied to the land and vice versa. When the King prospers, the land bears fruit. When the King is injured, the land withers. If you’ve ever seen Excalibur, you might recall that it is mentioned that the fortunes of Arthur’s kingdom are directly tied with his mental/emotional health. When he suffers as a result of Guinevere’s and Lancelot’s treachery, the land ceases to produce crops and the people suffer.

I highly recommend The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley. it will open your eyes.

oh by the way, in spite of the fact that Jesus’ sacrifice mirrored contemporary theology, the fact remains, the one single incontrovertible difference between Jesus, and any comparable personages, was: JESUS EXISTED. He was REAL. No other archetypal figure, not Isis/Osiris, not Ceridwin/Cernnunos, not Arthur/Guinevere, have been proven to have existed. However, there IS historical record of Jesus the man. the actual Human Being. His Uncle, Joseph of Arimethea, was a real person, a merchant in Biblical times who plied the seas between the Holy land and the British Isles. (did you know, Jesus’ Grandmother was from modern day France?) (did you know, Jesus’ Mother became a nun in a convent in England? Avalon in fact.) Did you know that Jesus attended University in England along with Pontius Pilate, the man who “washed his hands” of the responsibility of his death? There is so much more, its boggles the mind. But the interesting thing is, the Da Vinci code deals in a marginal way with the reconciliation between the life of the MAN Jesus with the MYTH Jesus.

Hell is cold. Have you never read The Divine Comedy?

But yeah, I agree with pretty much everything in this post.

Irishgrl: Wow. That’s a lot of information to my brain to comprehend at one time. Especially so rushed as I feel. But……
This Celtic tradition sounds interesting – reminds me, sort of, of the Native American myths on the creation of the world/earth we did in Language Arts last year.
And no, I had no idea there was any significance to the name of this thing, I just thought it sounded cool. :P
I don’t think I’d like the idea, however, of the king or leader’s health being tied to the land – unless this leader is a really, really great guy. Just, something strange about that, I’m not too fond of.
So then there is truth in Jesus’ life? See, I didn’t know that there was evidence that he lived, other than the bible. Just, like, just because he lived, though, doesn’t mean he did all the things that it’s said that he has done.
It’s weird, though, to think that Jesus went to school with the guy who pretty much “sealed the deal” with his death.
Just, weird stuff, all the way around.

Carrots, and sometimes Cookies: No, I haven’t read the Divine Comedy, I do, however, have The Inferno, just not the other parts. Haven’t gotten around to actually reading it yet.
And oh so glad you agree. ;)

  7. irishgrl Says:

Yeah, Jesus was real. Im not saying I take the Bible literally (tho I know a lot of people do) but, yeah, he was real. There are documents written by Pontius Pilate to King Herod after Jesus’ death and whatnot. Apparently Herod was ailing and was mad at Pilate for having Jesus crucified, because he was hoping to receive a miracle of health. If you’re interested you need to check out Glenn Kimball
    here is a link I found: http://www.lightstreamers.com/kimball.htm
I have some of his books. he does his research!

  8. irishgrl Says:

oops, I need to correct an error, it was Tiberius (not Herod) who wanted to meet Jesus…sorry :(

  9. Creating Havok 24/7 Says:

This is insane! I never knew there was so much more information about this, other than what the bible. I always figured that was it, unless you talked to the mormons, but they don’t even have that.
And that guy’s not the only one who’s done his research……

if you’re referring to me regarding research, I LURVE research. I just do. And I think Im good at it (I dont usually compliment myself but there’s one or two things I think I do pretty well)

  12. Creating Havok 24/7 Says:

Yes, yes I was referring to you.
And I can tell that you LURVE research. I kinda picked that up since like, Sunday actually – at least I think it was Sunday (I don’t know which day is which, to be honest).
Either way, you are good at it.
